REU Student Environment
Research Facilities:
REU Site students will have access to state-of-the art facilities at Temple University. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences is housed in the new Science Education and Research Center (SERC) building, a state of the art facility constructed in 2015. Within SERC, each CIS research lab contributes specialized equipment that is available for use by all REU Site participants, including wearable computing devices, sensors and actuators, high-definition cameras, and GPU clusters. Students will also have access to the resources of the Center for Networked Computing, which brings together government, industry, and academia to advance research in mobile and pervasive computing, wireless networks, cyber-physical systems, and applications for the Internet of Things.
Campus Housing:
REU students live on the Temple University campus in a residence hall that offers modern amenities in apartment-style units with private bedrooms, living area, kitchen, and a full bath. Students from other summer research programs are housed in the same residence hall, offering our REU Site students access to a larger community of undergraduate researchers. The residence hall is conveniently located within easy walking distance to the research labs and is adjacent to Fresh Grocer Supermarket, Temple University Fitness, the campus bookstore, bank, and post office. Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) subway and regional rail stations are in close proximity, offering convenient access to explore the city of Philadelphia and surrounding regions.
